Who we are
Welcome to the truth in recruiting web site of The Truth Project, Inc., a Florida non profit corporation.
Based in Palm Beach County, Florida, The Truth Project, Inc., educates young men and women, their parents, their teachers and the community on issues surrounding military recruiting and alternatives to enlisting in the military, and issues of government/corporate intrusion in to students’ privacy.
What we do
To this end, members and volunteers make truth in recruiting visits to public schools throughout Palm Beach County. We talk to students and give them information and educational literature. You’ll find us and our literature in public high schools and public college campuses in the community. We do the same thing that teachers do—try to get people to think before they act.
We also hold public awareness rallies off campus to alert the community to militarism in the public schools and how to defend their privacy rights.
Training
We train volunteers in the local community who wish to go into the schools to talk directly to students or become active in the truth in recruiting movement in any of a number of other ways. We also train truth in recruiting activists in communities outside Palm Beach County either in person (depending on distance and availability) or through free training materials (soon to be available).
Resources
This web site is one way we educate and raise awareness. You’ll find links to news about truth in recruiting. In our Resources section, you’ll find links to web sites of other grassroots groups around the country with similar missions. There you’ll find links to films about life in the military from veterans of the attack on and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, and from previous wars. You’ll also find lists of books (and some links) and more information and literature to help you make informed decisions.
Filling in the blanks military marketing leaves out
We supplement the information the military recruiters give you. Sometimes, recruiters leave out some important information that would help you make a better decision. Sometimes you don't understand what they mean, and like many people are reluctant to show that you don’t know. Sometimes, recruiters have given misinformation about enlistment and they count on you not challenging their authority or questioning statements that are patently false. They rely on your ignorance and gullibility to enlist you.
As long as it is a public place, we go where military recruiters go. While private companies and corporations welcome military recruiters to their malls and businesses, they do not welcome us or our literature. Private property can regulate the kind of speech they allow. But public places are places for public forums. Speech is still free there.
Our message/mantra: think it through
We encourage you to question assumptions and challenge authority. Question your own motives. When you have all the facts about enlisting in the military, have thought it through completely and know why you’re making a choice, you’ll make the right one for you and everyone else.
